Our Little One sleeps in his manger of wood,
Our Lady still ponders the workings of God,
Joseph the Carpenter is silent in awe
as shepherds and magi bow low and adore.

What a strange place for the strangest of births!
The Maker of all has come down to His earth.
From dust and to dust we all have to turn
‘til from this small child the new way we learn.

What a wonderful shoot from the old Jesse Tree,
What a beautiful fruit the new Eve did conceive!
By her simple ‘yes’ she unlocked the gate
which Eve’s greedy eyes had closed in our face.

Our Little One sleeps in his manger of wood,
Our Lady still ponders the workings of God,
already the promise of His love is found
where the roots of the True Vine break open new ground.
