Reflexionem
(piano version)
COMPOSER’S NOTE
From 2006-2007 I was Classic FM’s composer in residence, and was commissioned to write twelve calming pieces for piano. For the resulting album – Towards The Light – I also arranged this piano version of Reflexionem as a bonus track.
This original version for solo soprano, SATB choir and string orchestra appeared on my debut album Blue in Blue in 2004 and, in 2014, I was approached by Voces8 to produce a version for them with cello which featured on their Number-One-selling album Eventide.
This meditative piece reflects on the eternal mystery of ‘what is true is beautiful and what is beautiful is good’. The simplicity of the text is mirrored in the pure tonality of D major and in the repetitive four-bar harmonic progression.
I also arranged a version for Cello and Harp as a duet for cellist Julian Lloyd Webber and the Royal Harpist Claire Jones which featured on my 2008 album Fair Albion.
Other versions for solo harp or orchestra are also available.
