COMPOSER’S NOTE
I began writing this setting of the Eucharist in 1997 for use by my brother Andrew in his Lincolnshire group of parishes. At that time, he was without an organist at Edenham and I would often help out, getting to know both the organ and the singing capabilities of the choir and congregation. When I discovered Andrew was looking for a new setting of the Communion Service, I set to work on the Gloria, Sanctus & Benedictus. The Kyrie, Gospel Acclamation and Agnus Dei soon followed. These have been used with great success at Edenham, Witham-on-the-Hill and Swinstead ever since. More recently, I have been encouraged by my brother to add more sections in order to form a full Eucharistic setting, including The Lord’s Prayer, and also to introduce optional parts for SATB choir. Now The Edenham Eucharist is finished, it is my hope that it will enhance Christian worship not only in small parish churches but also in cathedrals and other larger places of worship throughout the land and beyond.
